cottonwood musings continued...

I confess that I have a true love affair with these cottonwood trees.  Over the years I have found that I am not alone.  When folks get cottonwood bud oil under their noses for the first time they are transported immediately to childhood places, to a walk along a river, or to some deep place within their innate plant knowing.  I have also been asked to make an unscented lip balm over the years.  Cottonwood bud offers sun protection for sensitive lips.  High in salicylic acid, it offers pain relief to those with cold sores or cracked painful lips.  It also offers mild exfoliation to the skin of the lips and cell turnover, which is often the best remedy for chapped lips.  This lip balm is unscented, but does offer that wondrous smell of cottonwood bud.  It tingles a little when applied and I find the texture to be just perfect - not too waxy - yet great staying power.  Turn to the trees for protecting those kissable lips.  You might just become a tree hugger if you weren't one already!
